Tattoo ?

August 22, 2007

I have been so busy this whole weekend and week I’m having trouble getting some interesting posts out there. I did get to bake a cake late last night, then my husband and I watched LA Ink. I never have been into tattoos, mainly because I have a very low pain tolerance, and because I would be scared to commit to something on my body for that long. I will say though, that watching this show has made me have teeny little urges for getting one, and I’ve been very impressed by the amount of talent, skill and artistic ability it takes to be a tattoo artist. They are graphic artists and fine artists all spun into one (not that there is necessarily a distinction). Last night, Kat did one on rapper Eve that had this beautiful symbol then some gorgeous scripty text put below it, and it made me think that if I ever did get one, I think it would have to be writing of some sort. I just love the artists on LA Ink - their tattoos are so beautiful, colorful, and feminine (but can also be manly!) I also, (shoot me) love Lindsay Lohan’s tattoo - it is “breathe” in a delicate white cursive on her wrist. The (bad) picture is 1st in the second row.

Probably a bible verse or just a word that symbolizes my art, my faith, and my family and friends. Ha… that’s not tricky, right? But the more simple the better. Below are some that I like. Scripts, flourishy art, and I love cherry blossoms. The last one is the tattoos of little stars on Kat’s face. I just think they are so cute. I would never get something on my face - but don’t they must make her look so special?

What about you? If you have a tattoo, what is it and what does it symbolize? If not, what would you get if you were to have one? And, tell me the truth. Just how badly did it hurt?

    2 tattoos.
you know all this, but i’ll tell the stories anyway.
    1) on lower back. celtic triangle. supposedly symbolized “trinity”. i just like it because i think its cute, i love celticy things, it’s simple (i mean, for a celtic “knot”), yes this is my fav
    2) on right ankle/leggish area. japanese symbol for “grace”, flanked on either side by curvey symbols. grace = middle name, and just an absolutely beautiful “idea”…”unmerited divine assistance”…”free and undeserved favor”…
and our dear grandma mason’s first name <3

*i love that one up there on the back of the girls neck. i would never want to do that, but its so pretty. i also want to get a small symbol for “friend” or “friendship” with my 4 other girlfriends from high school…however, 2/4 are set on the idea…

    oh right pain…ummm
one on back wasn’t too bad, when they got to the top of the triangle though i thought i was goign to pass out and they had to stop. ankle was uncomfortable, all turned awkward and it blew up / swelled up huge after…but they werent that bad…i mean, i’d get another ;-)

Khm, oh, yes, you mentioned the same reasons why I don’t have a tattoo yet. Low pain tolerance when it comes to needles on skin and I still haven’t found anything that I would like to save on my skin forever…

Btw. thanx for the comment on my blog and my compliments on your design. I still don’t have any idea what design to pick for my blog…

There is a designer in Pittsburgh that has a tat that says “Helevetica 24pt” in helvetica 24pt type….hilarious and awesome…something only designers would get….

There are certainly some beautiful tattoos out there. I’d love to get one someday, something discreet and tasteful and probably pretty small. I used to want a little hibiscus flower, but never followed through. Maybe I’m waiting for just the right moment to commit.

i am looking for something which appeals to my soul but the fear of pain keeps me from trying it.

Tattoos aren’t really all that painful, unless they are done on bony or protected areas of the body; those areas tend to be super sensitive. Stick to fleshy areas and you won’t be ‘uncomfortable’. A trick to not feeling the “sting”: zone out mentally, go somewhere else in your mind, watch while it’s being done, but don’t think about it.
I have 40+ tattoos, both arms, legs, upper back, right shoulder, abdomen, chest and right buttock. Tattoos are addictive, once you start, it’s very hard to stop. I started out with a tiny rosebud 15 years ago, just one, that was all I was getting, or so I said, but I kept thinking about the next one.
I’m a tattoo artist and I also tattoo myself! I’ve found that women are better at getting tattooed than men, women have a much higher threshold to pain than men, most of the time.
If you’ve been toying with the idea, make sure that you choose the right design, something you’ll be happy with for the rest of your life, comparatively the cost and pain (and possible scarring)of removal, makes a good choice of design imperative.
    Happy tattooing!

I agree with (shoot me now) LiLo’s ‘breathe’ tatoo, I didn’t know that it was with white ink - which makes it even cooler. I’ve been hearing lots about the ink that only is seen under black light…. pretty cool… The coolest tatoo that I have ever seen was a writer that had a nice little semi-colon under her belly-button. Nice blog btw - I enjoyed it

I have 5 tattoos. One on each side of my left ankle - one that was drawn by a good friend of mine in college, and the other drawn by myself. Hers is a dragon that is colored in cool blues and greens, and mine is a sun, colored in warm reds and oranges. The others don’t have any special significance, though. They hurt, but not a ton. The ones on my ankle hurt more than the ones on my back.

Want to start your private office arms race right now?

I just got my own USB rocket launcher :-) Awsome thing.

Plug into your computer and you got a remote controlled office missile launcher with 360 degrees horizontal and 45 degree vertival rotation with a range of more than 6 meters - which gives you a coverage of 113 square meters round your workplace.
You can get the gadget here: http://tinyurl.com/2qul3c

Check out the video they have on the page.

    Cheers

Hi Rachel, just stumbled across your blog and thought I’d say hello!

I have three tattoos i plan on getting in the near near future, the first being some beautiful script I did myself, with some filligree touches around the edge. It will be across my shoulderblades, and it’s the phrase “only god can judge me” in latin. The only reason I don’t have it yet is the serious lack of coinage. I also have a hibiscus flower for my left foot, and a vine heart for my right hip in the works. I would send you a linkt to pictures, but I’m not gonna lie, I’d be afraid someone would steal the designs. As for my left wrist (The artery that stems straight to your heart is here) i want to tattoo the names of any future babies. :)

Love the blog and all the fun pictures!

I actually saw the butterfly tattoo you have on your page and had it done on my neck like in the picture. Great choice. It didn’t hurt much at all. The greatest amount of pain was when he tattooed closer to my spine, but it only made me cringe a little. Hope this helps. Thanks for the pic as well. Very satisfied.

I’d get another in a second - but can’t think of another “secret” place to put it! My first one is about 6 inches down from my belly button and to the left a little. A pink crown - reminding me of my royal heritage and who my Dad is. Pain? I almost passed out.
